Seychelles Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture

The Seychelles Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture was established in 1978, offering a one-year certificate course in agriculture. In 1984, it offered a two-year certificate course in General Agriculture and introduced the IGCSE ‘O’ level certificate in Agriculture. Learners who completed their studies were awarded two certificates at the end of their second year.

From 1999 to 2005, the institution was transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources, renamed the Farmer’s Training Centre (FTC), and relocated to Anse à la Mouche. The institution was required to offer a one-year certificate course in General Agriculture following this transfer.

In 2004, the school introduced a two-year certificate course in General Agriculture with exit points and adopted a progression criteria system. 2006, the school was transferred to the Ministry of Education and placed under the Technical and Further Education Division (TFE) administration. Following this change, the Centre was renamed the Seychelles Agricultural and Horticultural Training Centre (SAHTC).

In 2009, the institution started adopting the Competence-Based Approach. Consequently, this resulted in the development of two full-time Advanced Certificate Programs in General Agriculture and Ornamental Horticulture and Landscaping, as well as the Diploma in Sustainable Agriculture. SIAH further re-introduced IGCSE Agriculture in 2024.
